An Audit of Research in Welsh Studies: a one-day conference held on Friday, July 14, 2004 at Swansea University as part of the annual NAASWCH (North American Association for the Study of Welsh Culture and History) Conference.
Background
Over the last ten or so years a great deal of interesting work (in Welsh and in English) has been done in ‘Welsh Studies’, in fields such as the following:
- History
- Literature
- Cultural Studies
- Visual Arts
- Music
- Sociology and Anthropology
- The New Geography
- Gender Studies
- Film
- Theatre Studies
What is noticeable, however, is how little awareness has been shown, even by leading practitioners in any one of these areas, of work done in the adjacent fields. It was felt that the time was ripe to attempt a systematic exchange of information across the artificial borders of area and subject disciplines in the hope of stimulating genuine cross-fertilization.
