This is an introductory module that prepares students for work in the healthcare science clinical practice environment.
This module provides an introduction to aspects of basic science which are important for the neurosensory science student to learn.
This module will introduce students to the theory and practice of cardiovascular science. Students will apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology and instrumentation to understand the principles and techniques of basic diagnostic investigations. This will be expanded in subsequent cardiology modules in order to develop the skills and attitudes required for safe and effective practice.
This module will provide students with an opportunity to develop the skills and attitudes needed to be a healthcare science practitioner. Learning is centred on patient presentation and common patient pathways through the health service. Clinical placements will contextualize learning, offer real-life experience and enable students to apply taught professional practice outcomes in order to practise safely. Students will begin a portfolio of evidence and will be required to complete specified sections of the professional training manual.
This module follows from the year 1 module in Professional Practice and further develops some topics as well as introducing others. The material is designed to provide support knowledge for the Healthcare Science student in their professional practice.
This module builds on knowledge and skills gained in SHC157 Introduction to Cardiovascular Science. Students will explore electrocardiography and blood pressure recording in greater depth with a particular focus on differentiation of normal and abnormal findings. Skills labs will allow students to develop competence in the clinical techniques necessary for placement activity.
This module builds on knowledge and skills gained in SHC157 Introduction to Cardiovascular Science. Students will explore ambulatory and exercise electrocardiography as well as ambulatory blood pressure recording. Skills labs will allow students to develop competence in the clinical techniques necessary for placement activity.
This module will facilitate the planning, execution and dissemination of a research project with direct relevance to the clinical specialism. Students will be expected to plan, execute and disseminate a literature review, audit or service improvement project.
The aim of the module is to broaden the student experience of clinical practice in their specialism. This experience will ensure that on graduation, the student can undertake the breadth of practice expected of a newly qualified healthcare science practitioner.
This module builds on the skills and knowledge gained during level 1 and 2 cardiology modules. Students will explore the principles and practice of invasive pressure monitoring and cardiac interventions in the catheter laboratory. Pathophysiology knowledge will be advanced and related to haemodynamic data. Students will be expected to critically analyse data and formulate provisional diagnoses.
This module build on the skills and knowledge gained during level 1 and 2 cardiology modules. Students will explore the principles and practice of arrhythmia diagnosis and management. There is a strong focus on advancing ECG interpretation skills and on bradycardia device implantation. Pathophysiology knowledge will be advanced and related to arrhythmias. Students will be expected to critically analyse data and formulate reports.
The module will prepare students for their professional role as a healthcare science practitioner in Cardiology. Students will gain an understanding of their role in the patient pathway and the importance of evidence-based practice that considers patient-centred care.
This module aims to provide an understanding of the structure and function of the key systems which is a core requirement of osteopathic medicine. This module builds upon knowledge introduced in SHF109 Anatomy and Physiology 1, and develops the understanding of the structure and functions of the key systems of the body. This knowledge will underpin the pathophysiology and therapeutics covered in Year 2.
