About

Dr. Clifford received a DPhil in Modern History from the University of Oxford in 2008, and joined the History Department in Swansea in 2009. Her chief research interests are twentieth-century European history, oral history, Holocaust history, and memory studies. Her most recent research project, 'Child Survivors and Holocaust Memory', received funding from the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust (among other sources); the project is the first to trace the post-war lives of child survivors of the Holocaust from 1945 through to the present, exploring how child survivors have made sense of their memories as they aged. Her latest book, Survivors: Children's Lives After the Holocaust (Yale University Press, 2020), has been nominated for a number of leading prizes in the field, including the Wingate Prize, the Wolfson History Prize, and the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction.
