I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English Literature and Creative Writing specializing in the politics of playing and playgoing in sixteenth-and seventeenth-century London and in the afterlives of plays from this period in later centuries, including our own. I am the author of ‘Public’ and ‘Private’ Playhouses in Renaissance England (Palgrave, 2015) and my work on the intersections of book, theatre, and performance history has appeared in journals including Shakespeare Survey, Shakespeare Bulletin and Early Theatre, as well as edited collections such as Christopher Marlowe, Theatrical Commerce and the Book Trade (Cambridge University Press, 2018).
I am currently working on Shakespeare’s Successors, a book about the writers that took Shakespeare’s place in the King’s Men after his retirement. With Professor Farah Karim-Cooper (Shakespeare’s Globe) I am co-editing a special issue of the journal Shakespeare emerging from the British Shakespeare Association Conference on Shakespeare, Race, and Nation, which I organized at Swansea in July 2019. With Dr Harry Newman (Royal Holloway), I am co-editing a collection of essays for Cambridge University Press entitled Reprints and Revivals of Renaissance Drama.
At Swansea I teach drama at all levels of the undergraduate degree programme and at postgraduate level. I currently serve as the Programme Director for the MA in English Literature and the MA Welsh Writing in English.
