Open DaysSwansea University's Social Work BSc (Hons) and Social Work MSc degrees are based in the School of Health and Social Care, which offers social care qualifications and is Wales’ largest provider of healthcare education.

"I have chosen to study through the medium of Welsh because I hope to work as a Welsh speaking Social Worker. Having the opportunity to work with people who speak Welsh is a great privilege for me, as the Welsh language is an important part of my identity, which supports my academic development.
On work placements, I have seen the difference that using the Welsh language makes in helping people and I have seen first hand the importance of working with people in their native language, as this enhances the individual's relationship and experience. Often, they relax more quickly into the situation and trust the professional relationship. There is a great demand for Welsh speaking employees by the Welsh Government and the Care Council for Wales."

What does a Social Worker do?
Social workers make a positive difference to the lives of people and communities in vulnerable circumstances. You will work to find solutions and provide support to a range of difference client groups including children and families, the elderly, young people and adults with learning differences, foster carers and adopters, and many more.
As well as your clients and their families, you will work with other agencies including local authorities, school, the police, to ensure that adequate care and support is provided.
Much of your time will be spent working with clients, so this is an ideal career choice if you enjoy working with others and making a difference to people’s lives.

Students accepted to study onto a Social Work degree or Social Work masters are eligible to apply for the Social Care Wales Social Work Bursary to help fund their studies. More information on the application process and the bursaries available can be found here.
WHAT CAREERS COULD BE OPEN TO ME WHEN I GRADUATE?
On graduation you will be eligible to register as a qualified social worker with regulatory bodies within the UK.
A BSc (Hons) and MSc degree in Social Work can open the door to a wide range of career opportunities and disciplines, as well as further study within the field. In addition to becoming a social worker, your degree can lead you into rewarding and exciting roles within health care, academia, government institutions, private sector and more.
