Fellowships: Advance your research career at Swansea University

The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science at Swansea University undertakes research in a wide range of areas spanning biomedical science, public health, psychology and allied-health disciplines including nursing research. As a Faculty of a research-intensive university, we welcome applications for external fellowship funding from exceptional, ambitious scientists who meet the relevant eligibility criteria and want to come and work in one of our areas of research strength.

We recognise that impactful research won’t always fit neatly into a single disciplinary pigeonhole, and we encourage fellowship enquiries for projects across a number of priority areas including those that require a multi-disciplinary approach. We have excellent links with our other university faculties, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. We also have strategic partnerships with two NHS health boards through the ARCH Partnership (A Regional Collaboration for Health).

How we support our Research Fellows

As a research fellow, you will be integrated into the Faculty as a full and valued member of staff. We will provide the necessary facilities, resources and institutional commitments for your fellowship project and career development. You will be provided with appropriate expert mentoring for both your scientific and professional development, with dedicated time set aside for access to your mentor/s. You will be encouraged and supported in accessing the facilities needed for your research, building academic links, developing your long-term research programme and identifying appropriate learning and career-development opportunities. We will work with you to review your progress, set goals and maximise your achievements.

Funding for your Fellowship at Swansea

There is a range of funding options available to support fellowships in life sciences and health research, including from UKRI and its Research Councils, other government-funded organisations like Health and Care Research Wales, major charitable organisations like Wellcome Trust, and other charities that focus on a specific disease or condition. Support for your Fellowship Application

If you think your research focus could be a good fit with the faculty and you would like to progress an application, please send us your two-page CV, full publications list and a completed Expression of Interest Form - Fellowship Candidate. We will review your proposed fellowship vision and, if we think it is a good fit with the faculty, we’ll identify an experienced academic to sponsor your funding application and put you in touch with our research-support professionals.

Our team of professionals in the Medicine, Health & Life Science Research & Innovation Hub can discuss potential funding options with you and help you to identify a suitable funder for your fellowship. They will guide you through the funding application process and help make sure your proposal is as strong as possible.
