Legal issues in Social Work and Social Care
This module examines the legal frameworks that shape and regulate decision making in social care and social work. It considers how social workers can make use of law in a way that enables positive and socially just change, and examines the value of law from a variety of perspectives, including service users and professionals. The module covers a range of legal issues relating to social work and social care practice, including child welfare, youth justice and community care. Emphasis is given to the practical application of legal frameworks and human rights considerations to case scenarios. Particular attention is paid to how the Human Rights Act 1998 and anti-discrimination legislation informs practice.

This module aims to answer the question `does having a healthy mind translate to having a healthy body'? It explores the multiple associations between mental health and physical conditions that significantly impact people¿s quality of life, demands on health care and other services, and wider societal consequences. The module also explores contemporary issues, debates and influences on the prevention of mental health conditions and the promotion of well-being.

Health Law and Practice
This module provides an introduction to the role of law in health care and critically examines how the law regulates clinical practice. It will examine how the English Legal System provides a framework for the National Health Service and considers how patients¿ rights are engaged through Human Rights Law, Trespass, the law of obligations as well as examine the development of the common law in other areas including negligence, criminal law and protective laws. Students will be introduced to and become familiar with statute law and case law and will discover how these laws apply in health and social care.

Personal & Professional Attributes
This module focuses on foundational knowledge of the principles and responsibilities that underpin safe and effective practice for paramedics and introduces learners to the expectations of professional behaviour, including the standards of conduct, performance and ethics set out by the HCPC.
The module introduces learners to some of the domains within the College of Paramedics curriculum guidance and facilitates the development of interpersonal skills that support inclusive engagement with service users, families, carers and the wider community. The module will introduce core knowledge and practical skills that support learners¿ ability to perform basic life support independently and as part of a team. The module introduces a variety of concepts directly related to the paramedic profession and is supported by a range of e-learning approaches that will facilitate learning and development aligned to this module.
Practice based learning will be supported by a five week placement with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust¿s Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS), enabling learners to engage and communicate with a wide range of patients with varying needs. This foundational placement will prepare learners to the world of professional practice, offering an insight into the pre-hospital environment and allowing application of taught theory.
