About
Chris is a senior lecturer in the Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy, with a background in sociology and philosophy. He has published over 40 articles and book chapters, together with two books, on topics broadly within the disciplines of science and technology studies and the sociology of environmental risk.
His research interests focus on the ways in which societies deal with uncertainty, particularly the uncertainties that accompany technological innovation. In this context, his past research has looked at the social impact and regulation of nanotechnology and personal genomics.
Most recently, his research has focused on the potential social impacts of the transition to low-carbon energy systems. In particular, it has dealt with the implications of energy transition for social and environmental justice, with a focus on Wales. As part of this work, he has collaborated in developing novel participatory approaches to help empower communities to engage with the energy transition and help shape the pathways it might take.
He is Joint Editor in Chief of the journal Futures.
