Placement Information

Year In Industry

Many of our students at Swansea University choose to spend a Year in Industry as part of their degree, which can have huge benefits for the company involved and the student working within the company. If you are a company that would like to find out how you can offer our student's a placement, please email: eng.employability@swansea.ac.uk

A Year in Industry can be taken as part of a BEng or MEng degree programme.

As part of your undergraduate course, a Year in Industry can provide a great enhancement to your degree and future career.

Placements

Through Swansea University's Paid Internship Network we seek to connect our students to employers for graduate level placements. We offer paid internships between June and September each summer. All participating students receive a free employability master-class and are assessed via a mandatory employability assessment centre.

‌The International Development Office have opportunities for students to gain international work experience and take part in work abroad programmes as part of the degree (depending on scheme). Summer work placements are also available. Find out more about working abroad here.

The College of Engineering has strong and established links with industry nationally and internationally.

Our knowledgeable academic staff and students are valued by companies to bring a new perspective and insight into the latest engineering developments. Our research has made a real impact on engineering our future.

Employer Talks

Each academic year, we organise for graduate employers to visit our students in the College of Engineering. These visits usually involve a presentation on graduate and placement opportunities within their company, and sometimes include mock interviews.

Our ‘Employer Talk’ programme has included presentations and guest lectures from Airbus, ARUP, Babcock, Exova, Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls Royce and Tata Steel.

Are you a Graduate Recruiter?

We collaborate closely with multinationals, SMEs, and public and third sector organisations in a multitude of ways. Our interaction with industry includes the development of our courses, direct funding for research projects, exchange and training of research staff, collaborative use of specialist equipment and advisory and consultancy services.
