Student Enterprise

On average, it costs £1,000 to financially support a student business. Currently, Santander Universities provides a small pot of funding which we use specifically to invest in developing student business ideas and their start-ups. Go Compare also provide support to the School of Management Students as part of their module - without this money, the following students would not have had financial support for their businesses…

The Student Enterprise Fund aims to provide students with opportunities to develop their personal and professional skills. Competitions, such as the £100 challenge, Hackathons (an Intensive weekend experience to work together to hack solutions to problems) and The Big Pitch (a competition hosted by REIS at Swansea University where students could pitch their business ideas for the chance to be awarded investment.)
Through these experiences, students can be more prepared for the real world and getting a head start in their professional careers. Without these opportunities;

• EasilyEco (students from the School of Management and Faculty of Science and Engineering) would never have started their business selling environmentally friendly products aiming to reduce plastic usage in everyday life. Without an injection of extra seed funding, they would not have been able to expand their product range offering and continue on their plastic-free mission.
• James Andrew (final year biology student) would not have had the opportunity to work with Sir Terry Matthews OBE in Canada and, also be talent scouted and selected to join the Alacrity programme. 
• Students from across all faculties would not have gained experience working on a real-life commercial challenge and as a result developed over 12 commercial ideas to support Swansea City Football club of which 3 (students from Law, Engineering and Management) are currently being tested further.
• Tom Robertson, GAIN APP (Geography Student) would not have launched an app that will allow people to gain exclusive discounts around Swansea and in turn, help local charities and independent businesses. "Swansea has opened up many opportunities for me such as organising a trip to the biggest student enterprise event in Europe, which was a great experience and helped me network with like-minded students, a hack-a-thon where I got introduced to Swansea FC with whom I'm potentially partnering with.”

• It costs £500 to run an enterprise competition/hackathon and £200 to run a student enterprise initiative.

We are dedicated to providing real-world experience to all of our student entrepreneurs. With access to high-quality valuable placements, there are huge benefits to their development in terms of their academic performance and their employability skills. Our industry placements give students the opportunity to enhance and gain new skills specific to their subject or industry of choice, as well as the employability skills required for their future careers.

It will cost £600 for the average paid student internship.
