Swansea University shortlisted for Canmol: Wales Marketing Award

Swansea University has been named one of four finalists in the Education and Training category in this year’s Canmol: Wales Marketing Awards.

‌Canmol is Welsh for praise, and the awards are an opportunity to do just that: praise individuals, companies and teams who have demonstrated marketing excellence.

CanmolThe university has been shortlisted for its Where Bright Futures Begin: Undergraduate Open Day, which was held in June this year.

‘An opportunity to celebrate’

The main objective of the open day was to attract bookings from a target of 10% more prospective students than the previous year. The campaign involved ‌conducting competitor research and analysing feedback from previous events in order to tailor the plan for the June Open day. Due to the opening of the new £450 million Bay Campus in September 2015, the open day marked a celebration for Swansea University as the final event on one campus, as well as an ‌opportunity to celebrate the University’s recent success in university rankings and surveys. The event also marked the end of the three-year undergraduate recruitment campaign, Making Waves, which won the Canmol Educating and Training Award in 2013.

‌The innovative event led to the target of a 10% increase in bookings being met, with 91% of visitors rating the day as “excellent or good”, and 77% of them noted that they were more likely to apply to Swansea University after attending the open day.

‘No ordinary event’

‌Gemma Williamson, senior marketing and recruitment officer at Swansea University, said: “Swansea University’s undergraduate open day in June was no ordinary event; we went the extra mile to create a real sense of occasion on our campus to give our visitors the best possible chance of experiencing everything that the University has to offer. All of the ideas came from within our own Student Recruitment team and each person played a key part in delivering such an exceptional event. It was a real team effort, and we’re delighted to have made the shortlist.”

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday, 6 November 2015 at Cardiff City Stadium.
