Donations from friends, family and colleagues in lieu of flowers at the time of Professor Mike Barnsley’s death went towards the building of a new nursery classroom in Rae Primary School in Kenya.  The classroom was officially inaugurated by Mike's wife, Lynwen Barnsley, during the 2010 Rafiki trip.
