For Medicine – Swansea had a unique blend of early exposure to clinical surroundings and student selected taster sessions offered in initial years to nurture my interest.
What is your favourite thing about your course?
The spiral curriculum followed by Swansea, which means we are taught under themes spread over different weeks and then the information is reintroduced/reinforced later to help consolidate learning.
What are you planning/hoping to do after you graduate?
Start my Training as a Foundation Year 1 (FY1) doctor.
Would you recommend Swansea University to other students? Why?
Yes. It is the perfect size – not too big so students in a cohort can still get to know each other. The city is very student friendly. The surrounding areas such as beach, Gower, Brecon offer good extracurricular activity spots.
Are you/have you been part of a society?
Yes, I am on the committee of 2 societies – The Anatomy Society and The BAME Student Network within the school of Medicine.
Have you lived in halls/student housing or at home during your studies?
Private rented accommodation – I have lived off-campus but recommend uni halls for freshers.
Have you worked part-time during your degree?
Yes – I work as a Student Ambassador for Swansea University as this has flexible hours and fits around my study schedule.
Do you speak welsh?
No – but I have taken up a beginners course offered by the school – Welsh language for medicine.
What are your top 3 favourite things about Swansea (the city/area)?
The proximity to the beach – great for relaxation, The Gower – great for nature walks/hikes, and The Santander bikes on campus – great to rent for a cycle around the beach to Mumbles.
