BA Geography

I chose Swansea to live at home, and study, and because of its high ranking with Geography.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

One of my favourite things about the course is the flexibility of the module selection. I have been able to pick modules within both physical and human geography.

How have your lecturers supported you through your studies?

The longer you study at Swansea, the more you get to know the lecturers. Whenever I've had a problem, the lecturers have always been there to help. Especially with the dissertation our mentor groups were helpful.

What are your top 3 favourite things about Swansea (the city/area)?

  1. The beach- the location of the university is great for both Singleton and Bay Campuses.
  2. The cafes/restaurants- there are many local businesses, it's always good to support them!
  3. The nightlife- Wind Street is great to experience!

Have you undertaken a work placement as part of your course

I completed a 35-hour placement within one of my third-year modules, Science and Communication (BIO352). During this placement, I actively participated in three Science and Engineering Open Days and spent additional time in the Marketing, Recruitment, and International (MRI) office for Science and Engineering. My involvement in the open days allowed me to engage with student ambassadors and prospective Geography students visiting the university. Working within the marketing team provided valuable opportunities to enhance my communication and teamwork skills. Collaborating with another student, we created content for the university's social media platforms. The skills I developed and refined during this placement will undoubtedly benefit me in my future career.

Are you/have you been part of a society?

In my second year, I was a member of the art society, it was great to relax and meet other students with similar interests. Swansea has so many societies to choose from!!

Do you participate in a Swansea University sports team/club?

I haven’t joined any sports teams or clubs, but I have attended Varsity, which is the annual derby between Swansea and Cardiff University. I recommend going, it’s so much fun.

What are you planning/hoping to do after you graduate?

I am planning to do some travelling and give myself time to figure my next steps out. I don’t want to rush into anything. University is so hectic, and it will be nice to step back from this and take some time and see where I end up!

Would you recommend Swansea University to other students? Why?

I would 100% recommend Swansea University to anyone! There is so much support from the staff at the university.
