What is a Foundation programme?
A Foundation programme is the level below a Year 1 programme. These programmes are designed to bridge the gap between High School and University studies and are perfect if you study in a country that does not have the same number of years in High School as the UK. This type of programme may also be suitable for you if you did not meet the entry requirements to go directly into the University.
Foundation students at The College are Swansea University students from day one and get excellent support in adjusting to Higher Education and then progression onto their chosen Swansea University degree.
For non-EU students, we have a number of Foundation options available across Swansea University subject areas.
What is a Year 1 programme at The College?
A Year 1 programme at The College is best described as soft-landing to University studies and are designed for students who do not quite meet the entry requirements for direct entry to the University. We have two types of Year 1 programmes available:
Integrated Year 1
As an integrated student you are a student of The College, but the bulk of your subject specific classes take place within your chosen Swansea University department. These subject specific classes may include lectures, seminars, examples classes, lab sessions and so on. As well as your department's regular Year 1 modules (totalling 120 credits), you will also take the following;
· Academic Support Tutorial – weekly in both semester 1 and semester 2
· Interactive Learning Skills & Communication (ILSC) classes – weekly in both semester 1 and semester 2. This module is worth 20 credits (so you will take 140 credits in total for the year)
We offer Integrated Year 1 programmes for Engineering, Computer Science, Arts and Humanities, Mathematics, Science, Law, Human and Health Science and Biochemistry & Genetics.
Standard Year 1
This is a Year 1 programme which matches the Swansea University Year 1 curriculm but delivered by The College staff. As with the Integrated programmes, you also have two additional modules to help you adapt to University studies.
Please note that our Year 1 programmes are only available for non-EU students.
