Join our free, 3-week, taster course aimed at getting Adults back into Education
As part of our BA Humanities (Part-Time) course, we also offer free, 3 week, online taster courses, on Tuesday evenings 6.30 – 8.00pm where you will gain insight into what it's like to study at University. These sessions are perfect if you are an adult looking to get back into education.
Through the subjects of History and Heritage, English Literature, Sociology and Politics, we will explore what identity means and how it relates to space and place. Drawing on the history, literature, society and politics of South Wales, the classes will introduce you to studying at University level through engaging lectures, seminars and discussions. You can pick and choose the subjects that appeal to you or attend them all to get a fuller sense of what you could study on BA Humanities (Part-time degree programme). Guidance will be provided for anyone interested in continuing on to HE study, but all are welcome to attend whatever your future plans may be.

Information and Digital Literacy - Sessions will start on Tuesday 1st March
Information and Digital Literacy introduces you to the concepts of good quality information, being able to think critically and make balanced judgements about any information we find and use. These skills provide you with the tools to navigate living, working and learning in a digital society. Topics covered include how to understand and engage in digital practices (examples could include filling in online forms, ‘netiquette’ what are the rules for engaging online), finding information, critically evaluating information, managing and communicating information, and how to work with others and share information digitally. You will have the opportunity to explore these in an informal and relaxed way, learning tools that will help you in all aspects of your life.
An Introduction to Post-War Britain: Rethinking the 1960s - Sessions will start on Tuesday 10th of May for three weeks
This taster course will introduce you to modern British history, looking at social change in the long-1960s (looking back to the immediate post-war period and towards the 1970s). This period witnessed the challenging of traditions, the re-examination of personal morality and the exploration of new freedoms. Cultural vibrancy, social change and political upheaval all defined every-day life in Britain.
Together, through our three seminars, we will start to unpick the key themes that underpinned the social and cultural transformation of British society. Week one will begin with an analysis of the key debates surrounding the 1960s and the core challenges that occur when studying this period. Week two will explore the emergence of a national youth culture based around music, fashion, and changes in sexual behaviour. Finally, week three will end with an examination of student activism, using material from Swansea University’s own archival collections.
