Working in Two Languages

How often do you use Welsh at work?

I use my Welsh nearly every day.

How fluent are you, in your opinion?

In my opinion, I am fluent in Welsh.

Do you have any positive stories to share about your experience of Welsh in the workplace?

Yes, I have a couple of positive stories.  I have supported a student for their Welsh degree, supported a Foundation Level learner, provided Braille for a local television company, provided bilingual menus in Braille and bold print for restaurants around University.

Have you faced any challenges?

I believe the biggest challenge that I have faced is recognising if other members of staff are Welsh speakers, and using Welsh without closing other colleagues out of the discussion.

In your opinion, how important would you say it is to be able to offer a service in Welsh, even if you’re not the person offering that service?

In my opinion, it is very important.  Like with alternative formats, the choice should be available.

Is there anything that would help in terms of your ability to offer a Welsh language service / do your feel that you need more training / practice?

I need the confidence to ask for services in Welsh.
