March 8th 2018 celebrates the start of the annual International Women’s Day campaign. With a focus on promoting gender parity, this year’s global theme is #PressforProgress and Swansea University are participating in the international celebrations by showcasing a range of successful and inspiring women that work, study and support Swansea University, both past and present. Amongst the women put forward for recognition by staff, colleagues and students at Swansea University, under the University’s theme ‘Lift as you climb’, is School of Management Senior Lecturer, Dr Louisa Huxtable-Thomas.

Louisa has been nominated for being “a very hard-working individual who is dedicated to students, and to the Swansea University vision. She works extremely hard to ensure that students are well looked after and get all the support they need. She goes above and beyond her call of duty to help others (both staff and students). She always sees the best in people and does everything she can to encourage them to pursue their goals.”

Louisa has had a diverse career encompassing work in environmental consultancy, policy making at Regional and Local Government level as well as business support and incubation.

After completing her PhD in 2009, her research interest increasingly moved towards business and management. In addition to having her work presented at international conferences, she has had work published in the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research (IJEBR) as well as book chapters for Sage and Springer. Holding a Postgraduate Certificate in Developing Higher Education Louisa has also developed, taught and assessed undergraduate and postgraduate modules on entrepreneurship and leadership as well as supervising Masters and Doctoral students.

With her particular interest in Entrepreneurial Leadership, she has combined theories and empirical knowledge gleaned from the fields of business, social science, education and psychology, and has worked with SMEs in Wales (through the LEAD Wales and ION Leadership projects) to identify ways in which adopting more entrepreneurial methods of leading can lead to more resilient, successful leaders and organisations.

Playing a key role supporting businesses through incubation, innovation and commercialisation as well as early stage R&D, Louisa has not limited herself to the field of entrepreneurship. She has also worked with academics in fields as diverse as healthcare, e-marketing, education, low carbon energy, information systems, manufacturing and tourism.
