WHEN AND WHERE IS THE SUMMER SCHOOL?

The Summer School runs from 18th July - 9th August 2020. All accommodation and tuition is at Swansea University, based in the exciting city of Swansea in south Wales, which has great transport links and stunning scenery.

 

WHAT WILL YOU STUDY?

For those who do not take English Language Tuition there will be the Global Dynamics lectures for the first half of the summer school, all progressing to Subject Specific Modules during the latter half of their course:

  • Arts & Humanities

    This module introduces students to the study of society, sociology, psychology and crime. The main aim is to evaluate classic psychological controversies surrounding nature vs nurture, explore and examine distinct human behaviour and the consequences of contemporary societal changes and the various ways in which cultural dynamics intertwine with the practices of crime.       

  • Business, Accounting and Finance & Economics

    The module provides an overview of the relationship between law and business with a focus on the characteristics of the different business organisations operating within the UK and their legal structure. It offers opportunities for evaluating the different business types through case studies, identifying where the risks of personal liability lies, using problem solving, numeracy skills and communication skills. The main themes being the core concepts of  incorporation, legal personality and limited/unlimited liability.

  • Engineering

    This module introduces students to various elements of engineering study at Swansea University. The main aim is to explore applied engineering subjects such as chemical, materials science, aerospace, civil engineering subjects through visits to local companies, technical experiments, lab sessions and test, factory tours, technical lectures and simulations.

  • Human & Health Sciences

    This module introduces students to the study of psychology, sociology, crime and society. The main aim is to evaluate classic psychological controversies surrounding nature vs nurture, explore and examine distinct human behaviour and the consequences of contemporary societal changes and the various ways in which cultural dynamics intertwine with the practices of crime. The module will end with a class debate based on the following question: ‘Does society produce serial killers or are they born?

  • Law

    The module provides an overview of the relationship between law and business with a focus on the characteristics of the different business organisations operating within the UK and their legal structure. It offers opportunities for evaluating the different business types through case studies, identifying where the risks of personal liability lies, using problem solving, numeracy skills and communication skills. The main themes being the core concepts of  incorporation, legal personality and limited/unlimited liability.

  • Life Sciences
  • Maths & Computer Science

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND WHAT IS INCLUDED

The Swansea University Summer School costs £2,750 per student.

What is included:

  • Return journey between Swansea & London Heathrow (with airport pick up and transfer)
  • Tours of Swansea and Gower, and trips to Tenby and Oxford
  • 3 nights in London on the last weekend

  • En-suite accommodation in brand new on-campus student residences

  • £150 campus catering card
  • Bus pass providing free travel within the local area

Students who enrol onto a programme with The College following the Summer School will be eligible for a £250 discount on their tuition fees at The College.

 

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COSTS?

You will need money for any food and drink outside of the £150 catering allowance, any activities in your free time and souvenirs or gifts.

 

ACCOMMODATION AND WHAT TO BRING

Experience university life by staying on-campus. Our brand new en suite private accommodation is included in the cost. Separate accommodation will be arranged for the weekend in London.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Students from all backgrounds and nationalities are welcome at our Summer School, as long as you are over 18 years of age.

Download the Summer School Application Form and return it with a copy of your valid passport to summerschool@swansea.ac.uk by 30th March 2020. 

Visa applicants should apply through the Short-term study visa route.
