Swansea University's Aspects and Impacts Register

At Swansea University, we are committed to carefully managing our impact on the environment.

Aspect: an element of an organisation’s activities, products and services that interacts or could interact with the environment.

Impact: change to the environment, whether adverse or beneficial, wholly or partially, resulting from an organisations environmental aspects.

We use our environmental management system (EMS) to assess how our activities interact with and impact on the environment. Once we've identified our significant impacts, we use the EMS to help us put controls in place to manage them and work towards improving our environmental impact.

We have worked together with colleagues in the University's Academic Colleges and other Professional Service Units to develop our comprehensive, pan-university Aspects and Impacts (A&I) Register which summarises our environmental aspects and associated impacts. We also support the University's academic colleges and support services to develop their own registers covering their specific activities.

Mitigating Our Impacts

To mitigate the impact of our activities, we have developed Sustainability Objectives & Targets and our Academic Colleges and Professional Service Units have their own specific Sustainability Action Plans. In addition, we have also developed the EMS Action Plan 2018-19 which outlines key workstreams.

We are currently updating our Aspects and Impacts Register. Keep an eye out for further information coming soon.
