The Go Global Team provides bursaries for students completing approved summer programmes or approved, college-led programmes. The funding available depends on the programme you are undertaking - if you are unsure which bursaries you can apply for, please contact the Go Global team for further guidance.

Global Opportunities Standard Bursaries for Summer 2019 only

This funding is available for all Go Global-approved summer programmes (this does not include college-led field trips or medical electives). Undergraduate level 1 and level 2 students and postgraduate students (with academic approval) are eligible for this funding. Programmes must be a minimum of 1 week to qualify.

  • 1 < 4 week programmes: 
    Global Opportunities bursary £400 plus £250 Widening Participation Supplement where eligible

  • 4 week+ programmes:
    Global Opportunities bursary £800 plus £500 Widening Participation Supplement where eligible

Students are eligible for widening participation funding if they have a household income less than £30,000 or self-declare as a care-giver, care-leaver or estranged student or are first generation of their family to attend university. Further details on the Summer Programme Bursary Application Form

Global Opportunities Top-Up Bursary for Summer 2019 only

Students taking part in selected 4 week+ programmes will be considered for additional Global Opportunities Funding. This bursary will provide a top-up to other bursaries awarded, giving recipients bursaries totalling up to a maximum of £2000. This funding is limited and therefore can only be awarded to a selected number of students. You will be asked to provide a personal statement on the Summer Programme Bursary Application Form and must be a Widening Participation student in order to be considered. The following programmes are eligible for the Global Opportunities Top-Up Bursary:

  • Discovery Student Volunteering Service Zambia Programme
  • Pusan National University Summer Programme
  • NTU Summer Programme
  • Discover Brunei - Global Discovery Programme
  • CRCC Asia Internships
  • Pagoda Projects (InternChina) internships

Funding recipients are required to submit photos and a written report or presentation about their experience, recognising the funding and the benefits of participation

Global Wales Discover

Global Wales Discover is a programme funded by the Welsh Government and Global Wales. The programme provides funding to support Welsh students’ living costs and travel while they undertake an approved 2-8 week short term work, study or volunteering programme.

David & Christopher Lewis Foundation for Summer 2019 only

The David and Christopher Lewis Foundation bursaries of £1000 are available for selected, approved 4 week programmes in China, South Korea or Japan:

  • CRCC Asia Internships
  • Pagoda Projects (InternChina) internships
  • Shandong University, Weihai
  • Pusan National University Summer Programme

In each application window priority will be given to students going to China, students who previously attended one of the following schools: Tre-gib, Bro Myrddin, Morriston, Bryn Tawe, Howell’s and Mill Hill schools in each application window, and students meeting Widening Participation criteria. Funding recipients are required to submit photos and a written report or presentation about their experience, recognising the funding and the benefits of participation. This bursary can be awarded in addition to the £800 Global Opportunities Standard Bursary (but will replace any other widening participation supplement). Funding is limited and therefore not guaranteed for all applicants.

Florence and Don McGregor Bursaries for Summer 2019 only

The Florence and Don McGregor Bursaries of £1000 are available for selected, approved 4 week programmes in Africa or Asia:

  • Discovery Student Volunteering Service Zambia Programme
  • NTU Summer Programme
  • Pusan National University Summer Programme
  • CRCC Asia Internships
  • Pagoda Projects (InternChina) internships
  • Discover Brunei - Global Discovery Programme

In each application window priority will be given to students going to India and students meeting WP criteria. Funding recipients are required to submit photos and a written report or presentation about their experience, recognising the funding and the benefits of participation. This bursary can be awarded in addition to the £800 Global Opportunities Standard Bursary (but will replace any other widening participation supplement). Funding is limited and therefore not guaranteed for all applicants.

Santander Summer Programme Bursary for Summer 2019 only

Santander Summer Programme Bursaries of £500 are available for any Go Global approved summer programmes with a minimum duration of 2 weeks. Priority will be given to widening participation students in each funding application window. There is additional WP criteria for Santander (if this will be your first international experience or first graduate/professional experience). You will be asked to select this on the Summer Programme Bursary Application Form

Recipients will be required to submit photos and a written report or presentation about their experience, recognising the funding and the benefits of participation. This bursary can be awarded in addition to the Global Opportunities Standard Bursary (but will replace any other widening participation supplement). Funding is limited and therefore not guaranteed for all applicants.

College led trips and Medical Electives for 2018/19 only

If you are taking part in a college-led field trip or medical elective, you can apply for funding through the Go Global team.
For the 2018/19 academic year, the current bursary available is £200 per student for approved programmes. You can also apply for an additional £100 widening participation bursary. Please contact the Go Global team for further details.
