Dr Yue Hou is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering of Faculty of Science and Engineering at Swansea University, UK. Dr Hou earned his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech, USA.

Yue is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE), a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FInstP), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET), IEEE Senior Member, Member of ASCE and a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Yue serves as the Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)-Engineering Sustainability, Computers & Electrical Engineering, and editorial board member for Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A, The Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering and some other international journals.

Yue’s research interests are focused on the resilient and intelligent transportation infrastructure and materials, physics-informed machine learning in transportation infrastructure engineering, design of sustainable infrastructure and materials using digital twins, and energy harvesting on transportation infrastructures.

EG-295 Introduction to Transportation Engineering

Transportation engineering plays the fundamental role for the operation of society. This module will deliver basic knowledge, basic governing equations, and computation skills in transportation engineering. Typical transportation modes, including road transportation and railway transportation, will be introduced in detail. The whole life cycle of road and railways, from design, construction, operation, to maintenance will also be introduced.
EGEM00 Transportation Engineering

This module will deliver advanced knowledge, governing equations, and computation skills in transportation engineering. The tradition design, construction, evaluation and maintenance of major transportation infrastructures, including roads and railways, will be introduced. The improvement and rationality on the sustainable design, construction, evaluation and maintenance of the transportation infrastructures to mitigate the climate emergency will also be introduced. The state-of-the-art machine learning-, material characterisation-, and advanced sensing- relevant research in transportation engineering will be introduced at master level.
