About

Dr Robert Bowen is a Lecturer in International Entrepreneurship at the School of Management at Swansea University. Robert has worked in higher education since 2005, beginning as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Nantes in France for 6 years. He joined the School of Management at Swansea University in September 2017, having previously been a lecturer at Aberystwyth University, where he developed and managed the Welsh language programme at the School of Management and Business. Robert has also worked in Marketing for the Scarlets rugby region, where he developed the content for the heritage museum at Parc y Scarlets. He is currently a Visiting Lecturer at Audencia Business School in Nantes, France.

Dr Bowen is a member of the Enterprise and Innovation team and contributes towards teaching on a range of Entrepreneurship modules.

Research

Dr Bowen’s research interests include rural entrepreneurship, destination branding and SME internationalisation, with a specialisation in the food and drink industry. His PhD conceptualised and examined the internationalisation of food and drink SMEs, drawing on theories of place marketing and internationalisation. He has experience of conducting fieldwork in various countries, including Wales, France, Malaysia and Brazil. Dr Bowen has regularly presented research papers at international conferences, including the WISERD (Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods) and ISBE (Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship) conferences, winning Best Paper in the Rural Enterprise track at ISBE in 2018. Dr Bowen has been invited to share his research with the Welsh Government, given evidence to the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee at the Welsh Assembly, and discussed co-authored work at the House of Lords. In 2019, he was invited to present his research at the European Commission during the annual EU Week of Regions.
