About

Wanling researches on the link between the sustainability of firms actions and their manifestation in asset prices. She employs advanced quantitative techniques to bring new insights to this future critical finance area. She is currently finalising her PhD at the University of Liverpool where her thesis focuses on the three-way relationship between corporate social responsibility, corporate financial performance and stock returns.

Outside of her PhD Wanling is active in collaborations that explore the application of data science methodologies in finance. Her early work on predicting credit risk has been published in Expert Systems with Applications, whilst her work on financial ratios and stock returns has been presented at leading financial data science conferences. Wanling also has working papers on the power of topological data analysis of time series to understand trading volatility and potential crash risk. Recognising the importance of keeping any data work firmly consistent with finance theory she has also published on the need for robust testing of asset pricing models in Finance Research Letters.

Keen to engage with practice Wanling has strong links within the local Fintech community and is collaborating with industry partners to leverage the insights her work brings. She is always open to new conversations with collaborators interested in sustainable finance and the opportunities presented in data science.
