About
Sergio has a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the Osaka University of Japan, and over two decades of international working experience in academia and industry in the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
Formal education across the fields of engineering, social, marine, and natural sciences has influenced his interest in conducting cross-disciplinary research, teaching, and consultancy in complex contemporary issues.
His areas of expertise include innovation theory, eco-design, foresight, strategic management, technology development, sustainability transitions, and the circular economy.
Sergio’s research interests focus on the cross-disciplinary exploration of the human-environment-technology interrelationship as source of both barriers and opportunities to the transition of current socio-technical systems towards sustainability. From this perspective, the role of culture—as an evolving human trait—is emphasized as a key aspect in the development of new narratives to induce change in the behaviour of both individuals and organizations.
