For the last thirty years, Judy has worked continuously at senior management level in the UK and overseas to improve healthcare and health professions’ education by building and sustaining capacity in clinical and educational leadership and practice. She is a highly experienced classroom teacher and workshop facilitator, accreditor and reviewer and has written and produced multiple publications and learning resources. She has worked on over sixty international health workforce, policy development and education reform projects for DfID, AusAID, the World Bank and WHO in Central Asia, Portugal, Greece, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Macedonia, Australia, China and the Pacific. Her last major international project was developing a Human Resources for Health strategy and recommendations for the Pacific region. She has been a reviewer and accreditor for the GMC, QAA, the Higher Education Academy, the Academy of Medical Educators and the Caribbean Accrediting Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) for many years.
She is an active member of international medical education associations and activities including AoME, ANZAHPE, APMEC and AMEE, was a member of the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) and the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME) Boards and is an active Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) regional and educational activity lead. She is Director of ASME’s international Educational Leadership programme and of the AMEE ESMELead programme, writes and publishes widely on medical education, faculty development and leadership (including the ABC of Clinical Leadership, with Tim Swanwick) and runs clinical leadership and educational development workshops nationally and internationally. From 2008, she led the establishment of a formal clinical leadership and management programme for foundation trainees in Leicester and over the last eight years has established two new Masters’ programmes at Swansea for clinicians and academics in Education and Leadership for the Health Professions. Along with colleagues from the School of Health and Social Care and School of Management, she co-directs the Swansea University Leadership Academy and Student Leadership Academy in health and social care. Judy has held a large number of external examinerships at universities around the world, is an invited speaker and facilitator at HEIs and conferences, and is a reviewer for many journals, conference abstracts and grant submissions.
