About

Dr Tim Brown works part-time in Swansea University Medical School where his main role is as the lead for year 2 GEM students. As well as this role he is involved in teaching on gastro-intestinal/surgical topics and anatomy, and in the emendation and standard setting of examinations for the students.

Prior to this he was a Consultant in General Surgery and in Pancreatico-biliary Surgery in ABMU Health Board (now Swansea Bay Health Board) where he started the pancreatic unit, and was also involved in the start of the medical school in Swansea. During this time he taught medical students from Swansea and Cardiff Medical Schools, as well as being actively involved in teaching trainees and Consultants on a number of Royal College of Surgeons of England courses.

His other main interest is in surgery overseas and he regularly leads ‘Hernia’ trips for conducting surgery and teaching trainees in various African countries, as part of teams linked with Operation Hernia and Hernia International. He has also been involved in surgery in Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

PM-140 Anatomy

This module will help to discover the anatomy of the human body in a systems based approach (cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculo-skeletal, respiratory and nervous systems). Anatomy is a fundamental science and supports many areas of biology and medicine. As such, the topics chosen for this module are those most useful to other areas of biological science, with clinical significance. This module will be delivered through lectures and practical classes with demonstrators leading practical and self-studying activities. Support materials and laboratory space for self-directed learning, including prosections, plastic anatomical models, bones and skeletons, and computer based anatomical models will be available.
PM-350D Doctor as a Practitioner 2

This module enables medical students to further develop their clinical and communication skills, building on the foundations they have learned in Year 1. This module provides medical students with the foundation clinical skills required for the practice of medicine. Based on the professional skills domain of the GMC¿s Outcomes for Graduates (2020), and Outcomes for Graduates ¿ Practical Skills and Procedures (2020), this module enables students to develop their skills within a safe but clinically-focused environment.
PM-358I Doctor as Scholar and Scientist 3

This module enables medical students to integrate their scientific knowledge and clinical skills in order to apply it within the context of clinical practice, thus enhancing their ability to practice medicine. This module builds on the knowledge learned in the previous years, based on the professional knowledge domain of the GMC's "Outcomes for Graduates (2020).
PM-368C Doctor as a Practitioner 4

This module enables medical students to consolidate their clinical and communication skills within their clinical practice, building on what they have learned in the previous years and preparing themselves for the foundation year training programme. Based on the professional skills domain of the GMC¿s Outcomes for Graduates (2020), and Outcomes for Graduates ¿ Practical Skills and Procedures (2020), this module enables students to further enhance their skills within a safe but clinically-focused environment.
