Dr Ruth Atkins joined the School of Law as a Senior Lecturer in October 2018 having lectured for many years at Aberystwyth University. Following her first degree, BA (Hons) Law and Criminal Justice, her early career was spent in commercial management in the IT and healthcare services sectors based in Solihull and Warwickshire. A ‘light bulb moment’ plus a house sale, found Ruth and her husband enjoying six months of back-packing around Europe before choosing to set up home in west Wales. Since then, she has gained an LLM in International Business Law, a PhD in Law (Contractual Liability for Defective Software) a PGCE in HE, two children and more recently a 9th Kyu in Karate.  She enjoys walking and is interested in home construction and design.

Ruth has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2007 and received a Teaching Excellence Award in 2013.

She has co-authored the previous two editions of Koffman and Macdonald’s Law of Contract (2014) and (2018) with Professor Emeritus Elizabeth Macdonald and very much enjoys teaching Contract Law.
