I am an experienced midwife and lecturer with a midwifery and teaching career spanning over 35 years. My abiding aim is to contribute positively to the health and wellbeing of the public and to this end my work has continually involved building and maintaining bridges between education, practice and the public. I aim to empower students and my colleagues to be excellent professionals and leaders to utilise their hard-won knowledge and skills to offer outstanding and excellent care to our community.

I am currently enjoying my role as Joint Programme Director for the MSc Physician Associate Studies here at Swansea.

I am also learning Welsh and am proud to say that I am progressing quite well – currently speaking Welsh whenever I can and studying Cwrs Canolradd.

Career Highlights

Teaching Interests

I enjoy teaching immensely and am always looking for ways to stimulate and inspire my students to become life-long learners. I believe that being a life-long learner is the bedrock for a rewarding life and career.

I teach across a number of programmes in the College of Human and Health Sciences and the School of Medicine.

While my chief focus is on teaching, I also have a track record of health care research in midwifery, parenting and in education. I continue to undertake projects with colleagues, students and Health Board partners in the fields of health and education.

Award Highlights

I have received several awards for teaching, including UK Awards for teaching excellence from the Royal College of Midwives. In 2017 I was awarded Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

I have collaborated with internal and external stakeholders on several research, publication and curriculum development projects including other Colleges, Welsh Government organisations, Local Health Boards, UK advisory groups and Local Government.
