Gideon Calder directs the Social Policy programme at Swansea University, and lectures mainly on inequality, children and the family, and aspects of political and social theory. His research focuses on relationships between values, policy and practice, and how each informs the other. He is author or editor of 10 books, as well as over 60 articles and chapters. He co-edits the journal Ethics and Social Welfare, having previously edited Res Publica – and has acted as a reviewer for over 40 different academic journals. He has appeared regularly on BBCTV and radio, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Social Policy Association, a fellow of the RSA, and Chair of the Newport Fairness Commission.
