About

Amanda Jones is a Senior Lecturer within the Nursing Department at Swansea University, based  at the St David’s campus in Carmarthen and Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth. Her specialist areas are The importance of the Welsh language within Health care, Children and Young People’s Safeguarding, and Public Health & Health Promotion.

Amanda is a Registered Children’s Nurse for the past 24 years and is also a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting). She also holds an MSc in Child Public Health. Amanda is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Amanda was appointed the College Lead for the Welsh language in 2017.

Career Highlights

Teaching Interests

Amanda’s role has been integral in implementing the Welsh strategy within the College and also ensuring parity and equality for Welsh medium students wishing to undertake some nursing studies through the medium of Welsh.

Amanda delivers the Children & Young people’s safeguarding sessions at the St David’s park campus Carmarthen to nursing students.

Research

Amanda published her collaborative work in relation to the Importance of receiving and giving care through the medium of Welsh with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and Cardiff University in 2016.

Following on from her MSc dissertation, Amanda has a key interest in effects of Safeguarding of Children & Young people who live in deprivation & poverty

Award Highlights

Amanda won a Staff Award in 2017 for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, relating to Welsh students, and was also awarded her Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2017.

Amanda achieved a distinction in her MSc Child Public Health which was awarded in December 2019.
