    The module provides health care professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their care and management of the person with diabetes. The emphasis is on the health continuum, the prevention of potentially disabling complications and the promotion of a full and satisfying lifestyle.

  • SHG3111 Minor Illness Management

    This module is aimed at qualified nurses working within general practice who intend to work alongside their medical counterparts or in nurse-led situations assessing treating and discharging patients with a range of minor illnesses within agreed protocols. Students will develop an understanding of their expanding role in the context of minor illness management as well as the professional and legal aspects of their developing practice.

  • SHG3115 Assessment of the Older Person

    The module will enable registered health and social care professionals to explore the complexities associated with the needs of the older person and identify strategies for promoting their health and wellbeing. It will allow the practitioner to apply their understanding of the complexities of ageing in order to make an effective contribution to the delivery of an improved service which better meets the needs of the older person.

  • SHG346 Foundations in Physiology and Health Assessment

    This module provides an introduction to the principles and practices of advanced practice. It is suitable for experienced clinical nurses or other allied health professionals who wish to expand their clinical skills and knowledge. This module will introduce students to the following subjects: anatomy, physiology, history taking, consultation skills, general examination and systems examination.

  • SHG367 Return to Practice

    The module is intended to allow nurses to study the theoretical and practical aspects of the contemporary role of the nurse. Students will learn how the structure of NHS settings has changed in the last few years to make it easier for health care professionals, and in particular nurses, to deliver continuously high standards of care. This module is suitable for: ¿ Qualified nurses and health visitors (HVs)whose registration has lapsed to return to practice in line with the PREP Standards (NMC, 2011) ¿ Qualified nurses whose registration is subject to sanctions imposed by the NMC and are required by the NMC to undertake the return to practice programme. (The Nursing and Midwifery Order, 2001) ¿ EU & EEA qualified nurses to register in the UK in line with Registering as a nurse or midwife in the UK (NMC, 2011). ¿ Registered nurses / HVs seeking to update and refresh their skills and knowledge. ¿ Registered nurses / HVs identified by their employer as requiring an update to refresh their skills and knowledge.

    This module prepares students for studying at degree level. Students are supported to work and learn together in a community of practice at the level required in Higher Education. They are encouraged to develop a questioning approach, to structure an argument, to write academically and to avoid plagiarism.

  • SHN125 Introduction to the Fundamentals of Nursing Practice (Adult)

    This core module addresses specific keys areas relating to the fundamentals of nursing practice and clinical exposure encompassing mandatory training. The module will introduce students to the profession of nursing, the underpinning values of the nursing profession and the professional codes of practice. The importance of patient dignity, respect, care and compassion will be integrated throughout the module and related to safe, person-centred care. The module will introduce the students to meeting the client/service user¿s physical and emotional needs.

  • SHN271 Health Promotion and Public Health (Adult)

    Health promotion and public health are essential components of the nurse‿s role. This module aims to provide students with an understanding of public health development, the nurse‿s role and priorities for action such as inequalities, advocacy and partnership working. Key principles of health promotion and its role within public health will also be explored. The module will also provide students with knowledge of how to promote health within practice across the lifespan in a variety of settings.

  • SW-M09 An Introduction to Social Work Practice Learning and Practice Assessing

    This module aims to equip qualified social workers intending to become `practice assessors¿ with the knowledge and skills to enable them to contribute to a social work student¿s learning in a planned and effective way and make sound judgments about student competence. Completion of this module also provides evidence of meeting the Care Council for Wales¿s re-registration requirements for continuing professional education and learning. Successful completion provides recognition that the practice assessing candidate is competent to provide practice assessment to others.
