I qualified as a nurse in 1986 and  have worked in a wide variety of clinical environments including community and hospital settings.  I work based in the St Davids park campus Carmarthen.

Teaching

  • SHG107 An Introduction to Healthcare Practice (SDP)

    This module provides an introduction to core nursing concepts, such as law, ethics, research, numeracy and health promotion. Completion of this module will empower the student to participate effectively in the delivery of healthcare practice. And the student will have the opportunity to undertake a range of clinically focussed skills appropriate to their relevant professional body. This core module also addresses key areas in study development using a variety of learning strategies to ensure the student can effectively acquire and utilise knowledge.

  • SHG3005 Care of the Person with Diabetes Mellitus

    The module provides health care professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their care and management of the person with diabetes. The emphasis is on the health continuum, the prevention of potentially disabling complications and the promotion of a full and satisfying lifestyle.

  • SHG3086 RRAMCI (BRONGLAIS)

    The aim of this module is to develop health care professionals¿ skills in the assessment, recognition and management of patients with dependency level 1, 2 and 3 (acute and critically ill patients).

  • SHG367 Return to Practice

    The module is intended to allow nurses to study the theoretical and practical aspects of the contemporary role of the nurse. Students will learn how the structure of NHS settings has changed in the last few years to make it easier for health care professionals, and in particular nurses, to deliver continuously high standards of care. This module is suitable for: ¿ Qualified nurses and health visitors (HVs)whose registration has lapsed to return to practice in line with the PREP Standards (NMC, 2011) ¿ Qualified nurses whose registration is subject to sanctions imposed by the NMC and are required by the NMC to undertake the return to practice programme. (The Nursing and Midwifery Order, 2001) ¿ EU & EEA qualified nurses to register in the UK in line with Registering as a nurse or midwife in the UK (NMC, 2011). ¿ Registered nurses / HVs seeking to update and refresh their skills and knowledge. ¿ Registered nurses / HVs identified by their employer as requiring an update to refresh their skills and knowledge.

  • SHG391 Contemporary issues in Healthcare Practice

    Contemporary issues in healthcare practice aims to introduce students to concepts of contemporary healthcare practice by promoting professional development and management in practice. It also links theory to practice situations through group work, discussion and debate and aims to consolidate learning in practice.

  • SHHM43 The Work Place Learning Journey

    The module will introduce students to the principles of work based learning and the skills required to facilitate personal and professional development for themselves and for their colleagues.

  • SHHM45 Clinical Governance and its Impact on Managing Adverse Events in Blood Transfusion

    This module will enable students to critically analyse how clinical governance impacts on transfusion practice and its impact on the management of adverse events, within their field of practice. Students will discuss debate, critically analyse and evaluate current practice and evidence in relation to the subject area with a view of reflecting on and improving practice.

  • SHHM48 Professional Practice in in Advanced Specialist Blood Transfusion Practice

    This module should enable the student to develop a portfolio dissertation which will demonstrate the personal and professional learning and development that has occurred since commencing the programme. The should enable the student to amalgamate and consolidate learning from previous modules and demonstrate how this has influenced practice and facilitated personal and professional development.

  • SHN274W Datblygu Ymarfer Nyrsio (Oedolion)

    Athroniaeth y modiwl craidd hwn yw'r gred bod datblygiad parhaus yn sail i ymarfer proffesiynol. Drwy gydol eu bywydau proffesiynol, mae angen i nyrsys cymwys fod yn gyfrifol am eu dysgu a'u datblygiad eu hunain. Er mwyn cyflawni hyn, mae angen iddynt allu adnabod eu hanghenion dysgu a datblygu, a llunio strategaethau priodol i'w diwallu. Mae datblygu'n cynnwys agweddau personol a phroffesiynol oherwydd nad oes modd gwahanu'r ddwy agwedd.   • SHN3057 Leadership and Management (Adult)

    The aim of this module is to enable the student to participate in the organisation, management and delivery of safe care to clients/service users in accordance with recognised legal, ethical and professional frameworks for practice. The module aims to ensure that students develop a critical understanding of the processes of clinical governance and continuous quality improvement through clinical leadership and can apply these principles to the practice setting, using a range of communication skills, reflection, clinical judgment and critical evaluation of the evidence base for nursing practice.
