EG-234 Civil Engineering Management
This module is based around the attributes (set out by the Institution of Civil Engineers) which are required to become an Incorporated or Chartered Civil Engineer. It will set out the framework of the construction industry and go some way to prepare students for what they are likely to face when they work in the civil, structural or building construction sector. It will give them an insight of the modern construction industry and the direction of travel of the industry. As well as the application of Civil Engineering and general engineering management, this module will develop knowledge and skills specific to Civil Engineering management, including (but not limited) risk management, sustainability and digital engineering. Students will be introduced to the types of Civil Engineering projects and the project management processes required to build them. This part of the course will develop knowledge and understanding of considerations for Health and Safety, Sustainability, and Engineering Contracts for projects as well as how these are managed. It will particularly focus on the commercial / contractual management, and the different types of contracts in common use in the industry. Students will also be encouraged to look at their own management style and the importance of good communication. They will develop their own CV's to gain an understanding of the aspects of professional behavior and development required by professional institutions. The programme consists of lectures, industry-delivered talks, individual and groupwork assignments on the various aspects that will be encountered in Civil Engineering and the wider construction industry.

EG-258 Civil Engineering Design and Practice 1
A project based learning design module spanning TB1 and TB2. Learning is based upon real-world building design scenarios to develop Steel and Reinforced Concrete detailed design skills, whilst also aiming to provide students with understanding of the whole building design process and real-life design experience. Stages of group work project include: 1. Concept development 2. Preliminary design 3. Health and Safety CDM Risk Assessment and Ethics 4. Detailed design in steel and reinforced concrete and 5. Sustainability

EG-3065 Civil Engineering Design Practice and Management II
Civil Engineering projects can be amongst the most complex projects you can find in any sphere of work. An understanding of the different elements of a project from conceptual design through to construction requires consideration of design efficiency, buildability and effective risk management. This module will cover a number of design design elements such as civils, superstructure, drainage and foundation design, together with consideration of the practicality of project delivery. The design work is linked with typical construction activities such as programming, method and site logistics to provide students with a realistic experiences of the whole project.

EG-328 Superstructure Design
This module develops a range of design techniques, understanding of structural behaviour for steel and concrete structural building frames from low rise to tall building applications, forms of bridges, as well as concepts of sustainability design for buildings and bridges and approaches to net zero carbon.

EG-D10 Team Project & Individual Dissertation
The module is where this program ultimately culminates with the final development stages and realisation of a team based project (as defined at the recruitment stage) with individual aspects considered and assessed as a final dissertation submission. The nature of the dissertation will be dependent on the nature of the specialisation of the participant. During the period of this module, a preparatory period will be followed by participants spending (or utilising remote engineering techniques) a period of circa. 3 weeks in-country delivering the project, with support from academic team leads and other supporting staff, stakeholders or collaborators. This will be concluded with a debrief and final dissertation writing period.

EG-M24 Advanced Structural Design
This module aims to equip students with advanced structural design concepts from first principles, such as prestressed beams, combined torsion, bending and shear, strut and tie, composite sections, fire engineering. Sustainability design considerations will be embedded in the design philosophy. How these translates into applications for projects will be explored. The module is taught in accordance with structural Eurocodes.

EGSM37 Community Engagement
In the last 50 years community groups have demanded and increasingly been offered an important role in planning and designing new developments and large scale engineering projects. Today, in an environment of localism and nimbyism, with local residents increasingly seen as `experts¿ in their own right, community engagement has become a crucial part of any development process. The module will introduce the role and importance of engaging communities, teaching various techniques of consultation and engagement, placed in a framework from top-down to bottom-up. These techniques will be placed against a range of critiques of engagement that have emerged in recent years, from the accusation that engagement silences, co-opts or manipulates local people. The module will include evolving examples of engagement such as the `charrette¿, `Enquiry by Design¿ and others, and will include a practical project in which students take part in engagement exercises.
