Professor Michelle Jones is currently Head of Swansea University School of Education and Professor of Leadership and Professional Learning. She has previously held academic positions at the University of Bath, UK and the University of Malaya where she was the Deputy Director of the Institute of Educational Leadership. Professor Jones' commitment to educational excellence has driven her entire career. She has worked with government agencies in England, Russia, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia and Wales, assisting with the design and delivery of their leadership and professional learning programmes.

Most recently, Professor Jones has been assisting the Welsh Government in her role as Chair of the Professional Learning Accreditation Group for Wales. She is the Academic Lead for the National MA Education (Wales), a truly transformative and sector leading programme for educational professionals that is being developed by seven HEIs across Wales. Professor Jones is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Professor Jones is a Research Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Education and a Senior Research Fellow at the National Research University, Moscow Higher School of Economics. She is the co-editor of a well-established international journal ‘School Leadership and Management’ that publishes articles, reports, news and information on all aspects of the organisation and management of schools and colleges. ​

Professor Jones has recently completed four major research projects:

  • An Exploration of the Teaching-Research Nexus in Humanities and Social Sciences in Higher Education funded by The British Academy (London)
  • Co-Principal Investigator of the ‘7 System Leadership Study’, involving seven differentially performing education systems;
  • Co-Principal Investigator, ‘Leading Learning for Educational Effectiveness: Instructional Leadership Practices of Primary School Principals in Malaysia. APCLC, HKIE
  • Co-Principal Investigator of ‘Leading School Turnaround and Improvement in Indonesia and Malaysia: Identifying What Works, sponsored by the Head Foundation Singapore.
