Students are the heart of everything we do at Sport Swansea. Through our huge choice of clubs and other opportunities, we create an atmosphere that makes it easy for you to participate in sport.

You can compete in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) competitions, local competitions, sport-specific competitions or play in non-competitive intramural leagues.

But if you’re not interested in competing, there are also opportunities to get involved as a spectator, volunteer or coach.

British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) is the national governing body for most sport in higher education across the UK.

It provides extensive competition structures to gain BUCS points for individual and team performances in league, cup and tournaments, all collating into a final university league table.

Swansea University is constantly improving its BUCS ranking and in the 2017/2018 season finished 32 out of 163 higher education institutions.

Each year we are building on our success, with more teams being promoted to higher leagues, individuals achieving stellar results and, most importantly, competing as a united Sport Swansea, increasing our overall BUCS points total.

If our athletes keep building on their achievements, we see a top-20 place as a realistic target.

Come out and cheer on your team!

GIVE IT A GO

Whatever your level, we have a range of opportunities for you to try something new, progress in a sport you love and be part of the Sport Swansea family

We hold a Give It a Go week in early October when you can experience different sports free of charge – though you will need a Student Sport membership to participate.

Sport Swansea fitness classes hold free taster sessions over that week – just book your place and give it a go.

Many of our sports offer intramural opportunities – simply find a club and speak to them about how to get involved.

  • All of our sports clubs run a free trial/taster session at the start of term when you can try out a new sport with no obligation of purchasing the club membership
  • Come and chat to all the clubs at Freshers’ Fayre to sign up for a taster session (you’ll need Sport Swansea membership for insurance purposes)
  • If you miss the first Give It a Go week, there’s another at the end of January during employability week
  • We provide students with the chance for sports clubs committee roles, coaching and referee opportunities, first aid and safety courses and Sports Swansea volunteer executive roles
  • We also offer student internships and student jobs at our facilities or with one of our branches.
