Sport Swansea Service Updates

As the current situation is unfolding aroud the Coronavirus, the health and wellbeing of students, staff and members remains our primary concern. Please use this page as a resource to find out all developments as they happen as they effect our services. 

Update - 20 March 2020

Due to the ongoing situation and in order to protect our members and our staff, Sport Swansea have taken the difficult decision to close our Sketty Lane and Bay Campus facilities with immediate effect from the end of today (Friday 20th March 2020).

We will be freezing all ongoing Health & Fitness memberships for the foreseeable future, this includes monthly direct debit and monthly payments through a Swansea University salaries. We will reactivate these memberships as soon as we reopen and we will inform you of reactivation at least 10 days in advance.  Any deduction taken for April memberships will be refunding next month.

The Wales National Pool Swansea has also decided to reduce their programme and operations - all public sessions will be cancelled with immediate effect.

We are still fully committed to helping everyone in our community lead healthy and active lifestyles to help you boost your immune system along with promoting positive mental health.

This includes supporting you through our digital channels by posting advice, workout routines and demonstrations for the duration of the Coronavirus pandemic. If you have yet to do so, please follow us on Facebook (@Sport Swansea) and Twitter (@Sport_Swansea) and our new Instagram account @SUHealthFitness.

To keep you going with a variety of home workouts Les Mills are offering FREE online classes; from short HIIT workouts, to hour long BodyCombat sessions. Access it via this link which will remain live as long as the shutdown continues.

Update - 18 March 2020

While we will be continuing to maintain operations, we will be putting into action the following measures for Sport Swansea activities beginning 18th March.

Gym and Facilities

Effective immediately, we will be cancelling all fitness classes until further notice. We do understand that group fitness is important to many routines, our fitness partner Les Mills are offering 95 at home fitness classes via this link. This online platform will stay live as long as the Coronavirus pandemic continues and will not collect any personal data.

All our facilities will be operating on reduced hours, please see below.

Singleton Gym, Sports Hall, Indoor and Outdoor Track

               Monday – Friday 7:00 – 19:00

               Closed Weekends

Bay Campus Gym and Sports Hall

               Monday – Friday 7:00 – 19:00

               Weekends 10:00-14:00

The MUGA facilities at the Bay will remain open for free-of-charge use by students/staff.

We will no longer be taking any group bookings at our sports hall or tracks, however we are still open with the reduced hours for individual use.

Our services will only be accepting cashless (card or contactless) payments.

The Wales National Pool Swansea will continue to operate for the time being albeit on a reduced schedule and programme.  Please check WNPS website and social media for further details.

If you are able to attend our facilities please continue to;

  • Wash and dry your hands before and after any training session
  • Wipe down all equipment after use. We have wipes and spray available at all desk points in our facilities
  • Follow the government advice regarding social distancing and self – isolation
  • Avoid unnecessary close contact with other users and staff

Student Sports

In line with NGB and BUCs guidance, we will no longer be supporting any student sports club including training and fixtures.  We advise that anything that has been planned should be cancelled with immediate effect.

Our staff are available via email and Zoom to support students with any questions or concerns they may have during this time. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
