Game 2 Portsmouth Destroyers
Our second game saw us take on the Portsmouth Destroyers who after last season when they refused to reorganize our fixture many of the boys wanted a bit of revenge against. The team travelled down to Havant RFC in Portsmouth on a day that had what only can be described as torrential rain. Despite the weather, and the affect it had on the grass pitch, the boys battled on.
The defence shut down the Portsmouth offence all afternoon preventing a single point allowed and even forcing more turn overs than they allowed first downs.
The Titans started slow on offence struggling with the muddy and slippery pitch. This prevented much of a running game and the rain caused the passing game to struggle.
After being shut out for most of the half the Titans finally broke through with a perfect pass from Sam Huxtable finding the safe hands of Elliot Bodman to put up the first 6 points of the day. The Titans added another 6 points to the board this time through their defence via a pick 6 by cornerback Harry Calton that left it 12-0 at the half.
The Titans were better going forward second half driving up the pitch but still failing to break through with more points. The offensive line was able to step up their game in the second half with an inspiring performance by rookie lineman Ahmed Mustafa who bossed Portsmouth players around all afternoon. This step up allowed Huxtable time to pick out Bodman once again putting the score to 18-0.
The defense continued to work its magic with a first career interception by safety Ben Cooze and a forced fumble by Gethyn Chadwick. To top of a magnificent performance Ike Amuze and Gethyn were able to tackle the running back for a safety finalizing the score at 20-0. Although we weren't as dominate as we would have liked it was still a job well done by the team and sees us sitting pretty at the top of the Premiership South.
