Friday was a washout with a howling offshore wind and pumping waves helped the 15 person strong Swansea surf team to get into gear even though the competition was on hold.
Saturday morning it was chaos again leading to a delayed start of 11:30am allowing for some pre competition free surfing to help calm the nerves. But at 12pm it was on! The format of the competition had changed to a single round knockout meaning it was all about getting a decent score of 20 to progress to the semi-finals.
Everyone from Swansea surfed incredible well with the majority of the team winning their heat. Scores locked in, Nathaniel James and Jack Geake had progressed with Nathaniel getting an overall score of 15.5.
Our boys did well but Saturday morning was all about the girls! Emily Williams was unstoppable winning every heat she surfed over the weekend securing her position of 1st place for the Women’s Individual title. She surfed well above the standard of her competitors, amazing surfing Em.
Nathaniel and Jack surfed side by side in the semi-finals both hitting some epic waves with a variety of manoeuvres. Nathaniel had progressed into the final finishing 1st in the Semi’s with Jack ending up in 3rd place.
Conditions for the final had deteriorated making it difficult to get solid score yet Nath still managed to find a wicked little wave in the opening minutes of the heat. He backed this up with a slash putting his chances of being on the podium high. He done it finishing 3rd place in the individual Men’s! Congratulations Nathanial!
The consistently of the team led to overall finish of 1st place in the men’s team! Yeeew Swansea!
