Dr. Hanna Nuuttila
Science officer, SEACAMS2
Hanna is a mammal scientist and bioacoustician conducting research into environmental impacts of marine renewable energy (MRE) devices, including device noise but particularly looking at potential effects on marine mammals. She is also assessing the feasibility of novel and traditional surveying and monitoring methods for potential tidal and wave energy extraction sites, including various static and towed acoustic methods, underwater video and aerial imagery using UAVs.
Current and planned projects include:
Cetacean monitoring using a combination of C-POD and Soundtrap acoustic dataloggers
Assessment of UAV use for harbour porpoise monitoring in turbid waters
Measuring noise generated by wave energy device

Research assistant, SEACAMS2
I am a marine biologist with a lot of boat-based survey experience including passive acoustic monitoring of cetaceans, BRUV, fish surveys and drop-down camera habitat surveys. I have worked for SEACAMS since 2011 working on a range of business facing projects. For SEACAMS2 I am currently involved with working on a number of studies concerned with marine mammals, fish and seabird ineractions with marine renewable energy devices. I am also studying a part-time PhD looking at environmental drivers of change in seagrass meadows.

Specialist subjects and interests:
I am an MRes Zoology graduate with a life-long interest in Ornithology. I have several years of surveying and handling experience of a large number of bird species, from raptors to passerines. My previous studies have investigated the movement ecology and behaviour of birds and how this knowledge can be used to assist conservation efforts.
I have worked for SEACAMS2 for around 9 months focusing on seabird movements and distributions in areas of high tidal activity. I am concerned with how diving birds in particular utilise specific features of these dynamic waters and to investigate any potential interactions that may occur with marine renewable energy devices.
Skipper and marine Technician, SEACAMS2
Keith has over 20 years experience of boat handling, and over 15 years experience of running research vessels coded to commercial standards. At present Keith is the skipper for Swansea University's research vessel RV Noctiluca.
Seagoing Technical Officer
As a seagoing technician, I assist with all areas of the seagoing survey work. I have a BSc Hons in Marine Biology and hold a commercially endorsed Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence and skipper the survey RIB for inshore and coastal survey work. I am experienced with benthic sampling, demersal and pelagic trawling techniques, plankton and water quality sampling methods. Other experience includes side-scan sonar, multibeam and fisheries sonar survey methods, as well as underwater visual methods such as BRUV and drop down camera systems. I have previously carried out benthic sampling surveys for CCW, worked as a research assistant for Project Seagrass and have carried out scientific dive surveys on a volunteer basis since 2012 on the Skomer MCZ and Isles of Scilly.
Dr. Novella Franconi
Research assistant, SEACAMS2
Biologist with research experience in movement and behavioural ecology and applied experience in natural resources management. I have 10 years of experience in population and invasive species surveys, behavioural observations, capture-mark-recapture and radiotracking, and 5 years experience as Research Project Manager. I have specialised in the last 5 years in database management/curation, first working for the French ONCFS Institute, then for the EURODEER Project, a data sharing project for animal movement data involving 30 research centres across Europe. In SEACAMS2 I am developing a relational database for animal biologging data recorded with the Swansea Daily Diary technology.
Dr Emily Sheppard
Emily is a movement ecologist who is researching the rules that underlie patterns of animal movement. She is particularly interested in the extent to which animals select particular current characteristics – whether they be air currents or hydrographic features. Her involvement in SEACAMS compliments other projects on the costs of movement in birds.

Dr Luca Borger
I am an ecologist interested in quantifying and predicting how individuals organisms, populations and communities respond to environmental change. I have a keen interest in both fundamental and applied research and concerning SEACAMS2 I’m interested in researching the 3D movements and distribution of marine vertebrates, in order to quantify the effects and costs of marine renewable energy structures.
