Welsh medium study opportunities
Our courses in Biology, Zoology and Marine Biology will prepare students for a rewarding career in a wide range of areas, including fields such as environmental and conservation biology, health protection and veterinary health, wildlife trusts, habitat management, fisheries and aquaculture as well as preparing you for further academic study. All three degree schemes are eligible for the Ysgoloriaeth Cymhelliant, as we offer 40 credits through Welsh at all levels. The ability to communicate scientific topics in the biological sciences through Welsh is a key skill required by increasing numbers of employers, and Swansea University is perfectly situated to take advantage of this. The range of subjects taught in Welsh include core topics such as Animal Diversity and Physiology, Ecology and Behaviour and Vertebrate biology. Modules such as these are central to understanding the natural world; being taught via the medium of Welsh will enhance your degree and career prospects in the natural sciences.
Our degree schemes in Geography are eligible for the Ysgoloriaeth Cymhelliant scholarships, as we offer 40 credits or more through Welsh at all levels. Our BSc Geography scheme, with 80 credits available at all levels, is also normally eligible for the Prif Ysgoloriaeth scholarship. We also welcome students who may wish to study just one or two specific modules through the medium of Welsh.
The ability to communicate in Welsh is a skill that is valued in several sectors of employment that recruit geographers, including environmental agencies and organisations, spatial and economic planning authorities and the private sector, in addition to the field of education. Lecture modules taught in Welsh include introductions to global environmental issues from both human and physical perspectives, as well as more advanced modules on natural hazards and on political geographies. There is also a strong emphasis on skills training and independent research. Being taught through the medium of Welsh will enhance your degree and career prospects in Geography and related fields.
