Increased disease risk for protected lobsters

Lobsters in highly protected marine areas (MPAs) are larger and have higher population densities, but these positive effects have resulted in some unintended consequences.

The Fishsite reports that new research by Dr Charlotte Eve Davies, Department of Bioscience, Swansea University, has shown that as populations of certain species of Lobster are restored, disease can increase too. This was specifically seen in lobsters in the Lundy Island MPA . More
