National funding boost announced as EPSRC engage with Mathematics department

Delegates from the EPSRC Mathematical Sciences theme were impressed by the research and teaching activities within Swansea University’s Mathematics department at the Computational Foundry, during a recent visit.

The visit, at the end of January, was an excellent opportunity for the department to engage with funders, and coincided with the Government announcement of the major funding boost to Mathematical Sciences across the UK.

Katie Blaney, Head of Mathematical Sciences theme, and four members of her team were impressed by a presentation giving an insight into the Mathematics department, delivered by 14 colleagues, from the Head of Department to ECRs.

EPSRC has said of the new Government funding: "The mathematical sciences are a key discipline in their own right in addition to being crucial for the advancement of all areas of science and technology, underpinning a wide range of discoveries a cross the research spectrum from health and security to the environment."

"The funding announced will reach across all mathematical disciplines, from pure mathematics to statistics".
