Connected Communities

The Heritage Lottery Fund and several local groups and societies are supporting local projects which focus on the history and heritage of the Swansea Valley that will be of great value to the local communities. The most recent, ongoing and planned projects that the Connected Communities Project has developed and supports can be accessed here

Llansamlet Historical Society – Sharing Llansamlet’s Past

The Llansamlet Historical Society project ‘Sharing Llansamlet’s Past’ is cataloging and then digitising the group’s extensive archive of photographs and documents. The project team are recording the memories of Llansamlet residents  who have a story to tell about the area and its people and will share this archive with the wider community through deposits in West GlamorganArchive Service and the People’s Collection Wales. School packs will also be designed and shared with local schools, that will include DVDs and CDs.

The Dillwyn Digital Trail Project – Penllergare Trust

As part of the Dillwyn Project co-ordinated by Swansea University, the Penllergare Trust would like to create a Dillwyn Trail, identifying some of the places in Swansea connected with this exceptional family and making their stories better known.

The Dillwyns were a remarkable dynasty whose cultural, scientific, political and industrial achievements stand out in the history of Swansea. Renowned for their enquiring minds, their incredible journey led them from botany and horticulture to industry and astronomy, with a generous dose of philanthropy added in along the way.
