Claire Hanley awarded funding for neuroimaging study

Welsh Crucible, devised to contribute towards the development of the future research leaders of Wales, will support Claire in providing new insights into the way the brain processes touch and how this changes across the lifespan.

The ultimate goal of the research is to produce knowledge of how sensory textiles, designed for those with advanced Alzheimer’s disease, are able to improve well-being and reduce agitation. To provide research evidence in support of existing subjective reports, Claire and the multi-disciplinary research team will endeavour to determine the likely origins of these effects; in conjunction with participants of all ages and cognitive abilities, by incorporating behavioural tasks and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI).
