Swansea University has been ranked in the top 10 in the UK for graduate prospects, and has maintained its number one ranking in Wales, with nearly 86% of graduates in professional level employment or further study.
The figures are from the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey. The survey is an annual collection of data that provides information on the activities of leavers from higher education gathered approximately six months after their graduation.
According to the latest survey, 85.6% of Swansea University graduates were either in professional level employment or in further study six months after graduating in July 2017, up from 82.6% last year.
When compared to universities that provide a wide range of degree courses, this places Swansea University 10th in the UK, up from 15th in 2017, based on 128 institutions as included in the Times Good University Guide 2018.
This latest achievement comes only weeks after the University was also ranked top in the UK, in the same survey, for the proportion of graduates in any form of employment or further study at 99.1%.
Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, senior pro-vice-chancellor, welcomed the results: “These exceptional results confirm that Swansea University graduates are highly sought-after by employers, and are equipped with the right skills for further study. All of this has been achieved thanks to the varied and extensive employability support offered to Swansea students via our cross-university initiative, Swansea Employability Academy (SEA).
‘’We pride ourselves in consistently ranking among the UK’s top institutions for graduate prospects, sending out a clear message that Swansea graduates are highly employable, whilst ensuring that our graduates are prepared for work life.
“Once again the collaborative working of our staff, students, and businesses is paying dividends, delivering real jobs for our graduates”.
Dr Jon Howden-Evans, Head of SEA, added: “The skills that employers seek when recruiting graduates are at the heart of the Swansea University learning experience, and this latest data confirms the standing of the Swansea University degree and recognises the opportunities we provide for all our students’ career journeys”.
Swansea University’s employability-intensive ethos was recently recognised by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), awarding Swansea a gold rating. The TEF panel feedback commended the University for ‘a clear employability strategy with very high levels of engagement from employers and professional bodies, where students from all backgrounds achieve consistently outstanding outcomes’.
