On April 24 2018, one of leading experts in the field of Welsh politics, Professor Richard Wyn Jones, will deliver this year’s University of Wales O’Donnell Lecture at Swansea University. The topic of his lecture is Nations, Nationalism and the Politics of the United Kingdom.
In his lecture, Professor Richard Wyn Jones, Director of the Wales Governance Centre, will evaluate the effects of some of the recent turbulent events in UK politics, including Scotland’s 2014 Independence Referendum; the 2015 General Election; the Brexit referendum in 2016 and the 2017 General Election, and will consider why so many commentators and academics have been blind to the changes that have been taking place under their noses.
The lecture will be held in the Wallace Lecture Theatre, Singleton Park Campus, Swansea University. There will be a wine reception at 6pm and the lecture will follow at 6.30pm. The event is being organised by Academi Hywel Teifi and the Morgan Academy, Swansea University.
Dr Gwenno Ffrancon, Director of Academi Hywel Teifi, said: “It’s an honour for Swansea University to host the 2018 University of Wales O’Donnell Lecture and it’s so apt that the two University academies named for two eminent figures of modern Wales, Academi Hywel Teifi and the Rhodri Morgan Academy, have the opportunity to welcome one of the leading experts in the field of Welsh politics, Professor Richard Wyn Jones, here to deliver the lecture. Wales faces a period of huge change in its relationship with the United Kingdom and with Europe therefore it is both timely and appropriate that we should hear Richard Wyn Jones’s characteristically perceptive and trenchant analysis of the current turbulent situation.”
Entry to the lecture is free and everyone is welcome. The lecture will be delivered in Welsh, with simultaneous translation available.
