The Health Informatics Group in Swansea University’s Medical School brings a new open access, peer-reviewed journal to the Science, Technology and Medicine (STM) journals market that is the only journal dedicated to all aspects of population data science research, development and evaluation.

David Ford is Professor of Health Informatics at Swansea University’s Medical School, and Executive Director of the International Journal of Population Data Science (IJPDS).  He expresses the importance of IJPDS to scientists working within the new field of population data science:

“I am delighted we have been able to bring this exciting new journal to the market, supporting the needs of an ever increasing cadre of data scientists focussed on uncovering important insights from administrative and clinical data.  This journal and its partner organisation - the International Population Data Linkage Network - provides vital new opportunities for all those engaged in this new science to share their work and learn of the latest advances in the field.”

The editorial board of the International Journal of Population Data Science (IJPDS) headed by Founding Editor-in-Chief, Associate Professor Kerina Jones, comprises a veritable who’s who of international leaders in the field of population data science.  Kerina Jones said:

“I am delighted and honoured to be leading the work of IJPDS. I believe it provides a much-needed focal point for the dissemination of international work across the spectrum of population data science: the science of data about people.”

The credibility of IJPDS as a trusted global academic journal is further enhanced through its strategic partner, the International Population Data Linkage Network (IPDLN), and its panel of expert peer-reviewers from around the world give the journal a truly global presence.

IJPDS is a new style journal for the modern researcher. This open access journal supports its authors to gain maximum possible exposure to the right audiences, whilst also ensuring readers the right to freely access essential research at no cost. Working hard to enhance impact opportunities for its authors, the innovative model of IJPDS brings a new dimension to the traditional academic journal format by informing the public of exciting new research as it unfolds. The journal offers its authors a service through The Conversation, an influential and independent channel for research news and views, delivering research directly to the public in an easy to understand general reader format.

The journal also distinguishes itself by acknowledging the fact that valuable research comes in a variety of formats and responds to this by accepting a broad range of manuscript types that are often out of scope for other academic journals.

The mission of IJPDS is to advance Population Data Science through the dissemination of high quality peer reviewed research and academic discourse and, to this end the journal upholds the value of sharing knowledge without restriction to drive new research for the benefit of all.
