Swansea University’s Department of Computer Science will host two events as part of this year's Wales Festival of Innovation (2 – 13 June) which aims to highlight and showcase innovation in Welsh centres of excellence.

Eurovis 2014, the Eurographics Conference on Visualizationwill be held at Swansea University between 9 and 13 June and is the 16th annual visualisation gathering organised by the Eurographics Working Group on Data Visualization and supported by the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee (IEEE VGTC).

Associate Professor of Science, Dr Robert Laramee is the chair of Eurovis 2014. He said: “Visualization is an increasingly important research area due to its wide range of applications in many disciplines.

“Data visualization is key to gaining an understanding of large, complex data sets by exploiting the powerful human visual system.

“The objective of Eurovis is to foster greater exchange between visualisation researchers and practitioners, and to draw more researchers and industry partners in Europe to enter this rapidly growing area of research.”

Dr Laramee is also the organiser of the annual Computer Science Project Demonstration Fair 2014 (5 June) run by the Computer Science Department at Swansea University, which sees final year computer science students presenting the results of their final year projects to the department and local IT industry. The event is organised in conjunction with IT Wales, Software Alliance Wales and Technocamps.

Swansea University’s School of Engineering also feature in the Wales Festival of Innovation’s programme of events. On 11 June, Dr Ben Evans will give an insight into the BLOODHOUND SSC project as part of ‘The Connected Human’ seminar which aims to provide a better understanding of technology and its adoption for the connected human.
