Sustainable Engineering Management for International Development, MSc

This MSc contains a series of compulsory 10-credit modules on subjects including community engagement, tools for international development; a 20-credit Introduction to Development Studies module; and a 60-credit team project and individual dissertation module.

Students will be recruited from a range of backgrounds to fulfil specific roles within the project. A minimum of BEng/BSc/BA 2.1 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is required, with IELTS 6.5 with 5.5 minimum in each area of assessment (or equivalent SELT).

Please note that places on this course are capped.

Applicants will also be interviewed (in person or by Skype or Zoom). Dates for interviews will be arranged after the application has been reviewed.

The programme will incorporate traditional classroom teaching, online learning, interactive workshops and seminars. Multidisciplinary group work will be a key component of the course, along with industry-focused projects. All of the modules will be delivered on an “intense” basis, i.e. in isolation over 2-week periods.

Some provision

There are opportunities for Welsh speakers to study some elements of this postgraduate course through the medium of Welsh but there is not yet enough provision to reach 40 credits in each year. The Programme Director can outline to you what is available in Welsh.

Sustainable Engineering Management for International Development (Engineering) is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Candidates must hold a CEng accredited BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree to comply with full CEng registration requirements.

A bench fee of £3000 will be charged for students who elect to complete an overseas project outside of UK. Depending on the project the bench fee will be used for (but is not limited to):

• Travel and subsistence associated with research project activities outside of UK
• Necessity for safe foreign travel which includes vaccinations, malaria tablets, first aid kits and etc. 
• Attendance at relevant training courses, where these are relevant to the research being undertaken by the student and/or safe foreign travel.
